OUTRAGEOUS ABORTION REMARKS BY REPUBLICAN POLITICIANS & PUNITIVE PUNDITS

Some of the outrageous remarks made about women’s bodies and abortions you have no doubt heard or read about.

Some politicians and political commentators are more egregious and misogynistic than others.

Let’s see what some of these woefully ignorant, women-bashing men have to say:

“IF IT’S LEGITIMATE RAPE, THE FEMALE BODY HAS WAYS TO TRY TO SHUT THE WHOLE THING DOWN.”

TODD AKIN, FORMER U.S. REPRESENTATIVE FOR MISSOURI, got the most attention was for his 2012 statement in which he said abortions wouldn’t be necessary for rape victims. The real problem is that Akin’s comment sounds like victim-blaming. By calling some rapes “legitimate,” he is implying that some aren’t. Critics have said that Aikin wants to make sure that a woman’s claim of rape is “legitimate” and that they aren’t just making it up to get a free abortion or something.

Now Akin has published a book to “explain” his comments. But savvy Amazon reviewers have this to say about the book:

“When he was called on this comment – clearly raped women get pregnant all the time – he offered a half-hearted apology which he is now taking back in the pages of his book. The book is full of it – he casts himself as the victim in every page, never taking responsibility for his own actions as Christ asks of us.”

“So Todd Akin can say that he’s firing back all he wants, but the fact of the matter is that he backfired. And now that he’s out of his cushy government job, he needs money. So what did he do? He put out a book full of nonsense that I suspect even the most ardent, backwards thinking, and knuckle-dragging Neanderthal conservative Teabaggers won’t even bother to buy. With this book, Akin proves himself to be among the rest of the conservatives and Republicans who hate women, hate democracy, and hate America.”

*WOMEN SHOULD PLAN AHEAD FOR RAPE JUST LIKE I PLAN AHEAD FOR A FLAT TIRE*

PETE DEGRAAF KANSAS STATE GOP REPRESENTATIVErose on the Kansas senate floor to oppose allowing abortion, even in the case of rape. When Rep. Barbara Bollier challenged his position, DeGraaf reportedly responded “We do need to plan ahead, don’t we, in life?” Bolliers asked “And so women need to plan ahead for issues that they have no control over with pregnancy?” DeGraaf then retorted “I have a spare tire on my car. I also have life insurance. I have a lot of things that I plan ahead for.”

*NATURE PUNISHES CHILDREN, BORN SUBSEQUENT TO A FIRST ABORTION, WITH HANDICAPS*

ROBERT G. MARSHALL IS A REPUBLICAN MEMBER OF THE VIRGINIA HOUSE OF DELEGATES

who advanced the notion that abortions  lead to handicaps. “The number of children who are born subsequent to a first abortion with handicaps have increased dramatically,” Bob Marshall said. “Why? Because when you abort the firstborn of any, nature takes its vengeance on the subsequent children.”

*WHY SHOULDN’T A MAN FORCE HIMSELF ON A WOMAN IF SHE CAN GET AN ABORTION?*

MAINE REPUBLICAN REPRESENTATIVE LAWRENCE LOCKMAN wrote, “If a woman has [the right to an abortion], why shouldn’t a man be free to use his superior strength to force himself on a woman? At least the rapist’s pursuit of sexual freedom doesn’t [in most cases] result in anyone’s death.”

MALE CONSERVATIVE COMMENTATOR CALLS WENDY DAVIS “ABORTION BARBIE”

CONSERVATIVE COMMENTATOR ERICK ERICKSON referred to Texas Sen. Wendy Davis (D) as an “Abortion Barbie” in a tweet. While Davis was engaged in her filibuster and her supporters tweeted under the “stand with Wendy” hashtag, Erickson started a “sit down, Wendy” hashtag in response. And after the legislature successfully passed the anti-abortion proposal a month later, which threatens to close 90 percent of the abortion clinics in Texas, he tweeted out a site selling coat hangers, telling liberals they should “bookmark” it.

Other equally offensive remarks prompted over 100,000 people to sign a petition calling on CNN to fire him. Erickson went on to work for FOX, where he landed in the headlines again after saying that women should “stick to raising children.”
